One Day Vacation in Polynesia

Have you ever heard about Polynesian food?

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t. That’s why husband and I were really excited when we received a daycation brunch invitation from Lapita Hotel and Resort. We’re not only excited about the food but also the resort itself.

What’s so great about Lapita?
Its location inside the Dubai Park and Resort, Middle Easts largest Hollywood inspired theme park. The ambiance and atmosphere make the resort top notch, I felt like I took a vacation in Hawaii. No wonder, because Lapita has Polynesian themed resort hotel, with an intriguing tribal theme which inspires guests of all ages to learn about the Polynesian culture and heritage.

When I entered the Lapita Restaurant, I could see seafoods all around. Thankfully, though, that I met Chef Joseph who patiently explained about the characteristic and uniqueness of Polynesian cookings. As an archipelago, Polynesian’s main resources comes from the ocean. It’s the reason why many of the dishes have seafood as their main ingredient. On the other hand, as a tropical country, Polynesia also has fertile land so they have diverse choices of vegetables, fruits and herbs. Naturally, they combine the sources from the ocean and the land into the dishes.

Actually, there were so many option of Japanese Food, Chinese Food and even many selection of cheese, but I just wanted to put Polynesian food into my mouth. So, I walked around, tried them one by one and the “Polynesian Tahitian Shrimp” easily became my favorite. Ask my husband how I hate shrimp! But in this place, I wanted more, more, and more shrimps! So did lobster. I didn’t even remember how many shrimps I ate. Both of these menu had excellent flavor.

Sweets upon sweets were there to complete your meals. As UAE has black gold, so does Lapita has chocolate golds. Lots of chocolate bars and coins were spread on the table, along with a tall fondue to glaze fruit dices and marshmallow. The fondue was unique as sprung chocolate and thick green tea milk! I loved that green tea covered marshmallow on a stick, or should I say: on sticks? There was also organic edible garden, where you could pluck vegetables from a soil made of cream and oreo crumble. What a healty dose of guilty feeling.

What makes it awesome?
While we ate, various entertainment, like live music, massage corner and area for kids activities extended and complemented that fun and lovely atmosphere. This atmosphere is a big part of what brings Lapita to the next level.

After we finished roaming the restaurant, we went to the outdoor area. There’s the open air kitchen where the food was cooked on naked flame. The outdoor area is surrounded by the hotel rooms. With their best location, delicious food and drinks, plus those entertainments, Lapita is an option that is not to be missed for family holiday.

Some Ideas to Cool the Summer Down

February hasn’t over yet, but the mercury has shown the sign of rising. I guess summer comes earlier this year, and I’m sure you have prepared plans on what to do this summer. Anyway, here’s two additional places you can put into your agenda to hide from the harsh sun: Magic Planet and Mikel Coffee

Located on the second floor of Burjuman, Dubai, Magic Planet is strategically placed next to the foodcourt area. As the name implies, as you enter the venue, you will feel like you are being transported to the outer space, with Saturn Rings float above you and stars twinkling on the blue ceiling. Roaming this interplanetary expanse, you will find many interesting game machines suitable for children from the age of 2 to 92. Machines like Wheel of Fortune that offers you a chance to win a thousand ticket, or a Color Matching game with a PS4 as one of its Major Prize, for example, will surely attract your attention for hours. If you feel like having some road rage, there is also a boom-boom car arena where you can safely release the tension.

For the little ones, there are also computerized rides where they can sail the ocean while fishing, or ride the seahorse to catch stars. You might need to ride with them if your kiddo is under 2, but beware, parents, you might end up having fun playing with those rides, even more than you kids!

Mikel Coffee is located at the ground floor of Burjuman, near the parking space, so it’s a perfect place to cool you down after your visit to the theme park above. This outlet of the coffee chain from Greece is easy to find as you can see the picture of the face founder’s father, Khadar Hassan, printed on the glass wall of the cafe. I ordered Cappucino Mikelo, their signature coffee, which is a cappucinno with a mix of various kind of milk. I don’t know what kind of milk they mixed, but all I can tell you is that this brew is amazingly delicious. I don’t think I have ever drunk a cappucino like this before, ever.

While sipping my coffee, I decided to order some croissant to accompany my cappucino, and so I asked them to bring me an almond croissant. I thought I made the right decision by choosing this croissant as it was really delicious and creamy with nutty almond flavor, but after a short discussion with my friends who ordered some other type of croissant, I concluded that couldn’t make any wrong choice here. Their croissants, regardless of the variant, are worth savouring for ;).

At the end, we are more than ready to welcoming summer!

New Year Staycation at Royal Rose Hotel

Early January, I got a chance to stay at Royal Rose Hotel located in Abu Dhabi Downtown. Its exterior hints to a 17th century French Palace, it fascinates me every time I pass by the hotel when I’m going to visit Abu Dhabi Mall. But honestly I never had any intention to stay there since I live in Abu Dhabi. Until I got a hotel voucher from Preffered Hotels, hotel booking site. Thanks to OurGlobetrotters who made this happened!

Location
The Hotel is within walking distance from the business hub, government institutions, shopping malls and other leisure facilities. The Abu Dhabi Corniche and promenade is a mere five-minute drive away.

The Room
It’s a 50sq room with one king size bed which more than fit for my family (2 adults and 1 toddler). We really love the clean sheets, fluffy pillows, soft blankets and the bouncy bed. It’s really comfortable, I don’t wanna go home!

The interior is equally opulent, with walls overlaid in intricate gold-leaf designs and accented with ornate chandeliers. Just like any other hotels, the room has all the basics facilities like SDB, cable television, hi-speed internet access, hair dryer, complimentary water bottles and coffee/tea kettle.

Their restroom has towels, soap, shampoo, and dental kit that come from Roberto Cavalli. What I like the most is the bathtub, so huge and fit for the three of us. For families who love to swim, this hotel would be satisfactory because the bathroom came with chloth line to hang your wet swimsuits.

Facilities
Actually there were so many facilities, they have 3 restaurants, healthclub and spa. But I just want to review their outstanding swimming pool. The temperature controlled, open air roof-top pool with jacuzzi, sun deck and kids pool are a perfect ways to spent the day. Look how my toddler really enjoyed her swimming session!

Services
Almost all the staff are warm and nice but they need make an improvement in valet service area. They should be more responsive in welcoming the guest since they are the first front liner. I think they need to put more efforts to make a good impression.

At the end, we got more than what we paid for. I will be back really soon!

*We personally didn’t order any food in the hotel because the location is close to the Abu Dhabi Mall, so we prefer to having dinner and breakfast outside the hotel.

Legends of Arabia: Quest of the Pearl Tribes

Have you ever wondered how was it like to be an ancient Arab tribe who wandered the desert for errands and battled against each other? Have you ever watched a play that was so good but still thought that it shouldn’t end that way? Well, if you visit Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi this December, your wish will come true!

That’s because starting from December 9th, every 7 pm, as the play titled Legends of Arabia lifts their curtain, the water arena magically transforms into ancient Arab coastal and mountain area, where five warring Arab tribes dwell. The play is of special type called Live Action Role Play and, as the name implies, in this play you can not only watch the story unfold, but also be involved in it.

As you enter the area, you will be greeted bye team of hosts who will help fitting you with the wardrobe and props, then you will have to choose a tribe to join and the tribe’s chief will welcome you and explain you the basic rule of the play slash game. You may ask anything to him, just don’t expect any spoiler on the scenario. Anyway, once the play commences, you’ll see why he won’t give you a hint. The play starts with only a basic scenario. then, as the story unfurls, we as part of the story may decide how it should be experienced. In fact, we are encouraged to do so.

For two hours you will roam the Arab realm, hike their high lands, acquire magic talismans that give you super strength, negotiate with other tribes, or fight them should the negotiation fails. Well, with sword in hand, you will hope the diplomatic meeting fails and don’t worry, it will fail. Soon you will hear the battle cry, the adrenaline rush when the enemy faces you, the morbid satisfaction when you slay them, or the grief when you and your tribe lose.

No, I won’t betray my chief by telling you the legend, but suffice to say that you can expect an exhaustive yet exhilarating evening, and the epic tale will be concluded with a buffet of the same proportion, where you can brag your victorious battles.

Should you become intrigued with this action drama, please visit here to book you and your family a place.

Deira in the Adventureland’s Jungle

Last week, we spent the weekend in our neighboring Emirate, Sharjah. We’ve planned to visit Al Manhatta Museum and Al Qasba and, while we were there, attending an invitation from Adventureland. So we decided to stay in Sharjah for 1 night in Hotel 72, i chose the hotel because their strategic location, it was across of corniche beach, Al Noor Mosque, and at the same time also close to our destination points above.

We visited Adventureland in Sahara Centre Shopping Mall, we came a bit late because the road was quite busy in the evening. Actually, it was our first time in the biggest indoor family entertainment center in Middle East with 70,000 square feet. We expected a lot of fun!

We met a staff named Naro to pick the giveaway and media kit. We got GO FOR GOLD membership from Adventureland, we had adventure card worth 100 dhs to access the kids attractions and family rides. Adventureland came with a re-energized jungle theme and my daughter couldn’t hold herself not to be excited and so she walked all around the jungle ?. Then, she was stuck in Green Go Round, after she saw a lot of horses there with a double-decker grand carousel. Afterall, which kid would not be appealed to ride?
Face to face with the carrousel, there was Parachute, an attraction that would surely be adored by future pilots, as these colorful corsairs take young kids to fly up and down, around, clockwise and back again. I was even sure that papa looked happier than the daughter. It sure was papa’s time!?

If you want to make a birthday party for your children, Adventureland can be considered as the venue as well. They provide a birthday packages with price ranging from 75 AED including the meals. We had a great time in Adventureland. Hopefully they will open Adventureland in Abu Dhabi too :))

Catering for My Creative Mood

Two of my friends, who have high passion in decoupage, opened a new store named Vintageous in Jakarta. Actually, I think, I don’t have any talent in arts or crafts. I’m just a lover of arts.

However, watching how they did a decoupage on their YouTube channel challenged me. they made decoupage looked easy and simple. So, i decided to order one DIY kit from them had it and delivered through my bestie’s husband who recently visited Indonesia.

The DIY kit came with a miniature of Indonesian cracker’s tin can as a media, paint, brush paint, glue, and sure the tissue paper. My friends’s staff sent me a lot of pictures of the colour paper through whatsapp. I can’t hold my self not to order. So i bought 15 set of papers, just in case i became addicted in decoupage.

I already imagined how many ikea uae’s products (www.ikea.com) that can be used as the base of decoupage ?. The word decoupage itself is originated from the French word decouper, which means, ‘to cut.’ The technique has existed for a long time, originating in Italy in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It was traditionally used as a way to imitate lacquer decorating styles, but using paper rather than other materials.
So, if you curious about how i have fun with decoupage, stay tuned, i’ll be right back soon with my creation however good or bad it may be.

A Glimpse of The Coming Winter

Last saturday, daughter and I were invited to Kid Fashion Show by Courcelles, a high-end children clothing and accessories store at The Dubai Mall. As the dress code, they required the visitors to this fashion show to wear beach chic dress code, because there would be beach access in the venue. Since I’m a newbie in wearing hijab, I don’t have any idea what to wear. My friend, Mabun suggested to use colorful dress plus turban. Thanks for the one who found youtube, i can easily follow the turban tutorial video.

The event took place in Dubai Ladies Club, and the stage was set up on the beach. Besides the fashion show, they also arranged a numbers of kids activities, such as nail painting, paper windmill making, seashell beads threading, bouncing castle etc. It really was a fun-filled day

At 3:30 pm the fashion show, showcasing designs from Boss, Little Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Karl Lagerfeld, Billieblush and DKNY, started. I loved the way those kids genuinely walked in the catwalk to show the newest collection. Winter 2016 features a warm mix of my favourite colors, white and dusty pink, and this season offers a wonderful selection of coats and dresses. I absolutely love the pink coat from Chloé kids, which is fully lined with fur accent in the collar, the perfect way to complete this winter’s wardrobe.

I think from now on, I don’t need to be stressed out in finding cute-fancy clothes for my daughter.

Splashing the pool with kiddo

Weekend has come, so husband and I agreed to join Water Splash Session with Speedo, an in-pool family gathering sponsored by Speedo, one of leading brands of swimming products. The event was held at the pool area of The Palace Hotel, Downtown Dubai.

I had everything packed one night before, so we can quickly be ready to go in the early morning. We left home at around 7:20 AM and drove for 1.5 hour from Abu Dhabi to the venue. We were thrilled because it’s our first time joining formal swimming class for my baby. Furthermore, I can meet up with my friends from #uaemombloggers community ?

The hotel’s location is strategically located next to the Burj Khalifa, the highest tower in the world. I loved the arabian atmosphere of the hotel, with the Souq Al Bahar beside the hotel entrance. The consierge warmly informed us the pool’s location.

We came a bit late, but the Speedo Swimsquad team still gave a short briefing to the audience. We changed into swimsuits provided by Speedo and get in the pool quickly so we didn’t miss any activities guide by the instructor.

The instructor was so patient and she even remembered the name of each baby. We were splashing and singing hokey pokey nursery rhyme together. My baby loved to swim, she really felt comfortable in the water. Maybe it’s because since she was 3 months I already brought her to the beach and pools.

The Speedo was called leading brand not for nothing. The fabric was soft and comfortable, and the cut was fashionable. All in all, the suits were designed and built to support our swimming activities. We enjoyed the suits and the event.

Husband and I are believe that swim is an essential life skill. It is also a great exercise for kids. It is not only a really good physical activity but also gives our daughter confidence in the water. But most importantly, it’s lots of fun from splashing the water all around.

Skin Therapy Oil: A Remedy for My Dry Skin

Few months ago, I was choosen as Palmer Middle East brand ambassador. Last week I have received one of their newest product “Skin Therapy Oil”.

Actually, I have a lot of problems with my face’s skin, whose type is dry and a bit sensitive. Throughout the summer, my skin usually gets worse. Sometimes it feels itch, crack and even bleeding.

Many researchs said this type of skin is better treated by using oil moisturizer rather than lotion because oil is more effective and less irritating than lotion. So, upon receiving the packaged, the first thing I did was checking the main ingredients of this product.

From the packaging, we can easily know the main ingredients of this product:

  • Cocoa ButterIt makes excellent skin moisturizer, plus it does more than just hydrates the skin — it actually helps healing it from the inside out too. It also contains compounds called cocoa mass polyphenols, which some studies have found can help diminishing signs of aging, plus soothes sensitive skin that suffers from rashes.
  • Vitamin C, The antioxidant of this vitamin have beneficial effects on skin cells, and some studies have shown that vitamin C may help protecting the skin from ultraviolet exposure.
  • Vitamin E, This vitamin helps in neutralizing free radicals that damage cells. It prevents the formation of wrinkles by blocking free radicals. It treats wrinkles by boosting collagen production, a connective tissue that keeps skin elastic. Vitamin E oil also treats wrinkles by supporting new skin cell growth and speeding up cell regeneration.
  • Retinol, Topical vitamin A derivatives that boost collagen to reduce fine lines and speed cell turnover to even out discoloration and smooth skin.

The most important of it, all the ingredients are natural, no phthalate and preservative added. So, I think this product can be an answer for my face’s skin issues.

I have some tips for using this product:

First of all, I simply cleanse the face with cleanser and toner I usually use, then I apply the oil all over the face, massaging the skin so the oil can perfectly absorb on my face. I apply it twice a day. Morning before starting my activities and night before I go to bed.

Within three days, my skin feels supple, soft and smooth with this unique, non-greasy and non-staining formula. With their reasonable price, surely Palmer’s product can be an option for your skin issues.

*This is an honest review regardless as my status as Palmer’s Brand Ambassador
